SDS Origin Tier List — Best Characters Ranked (March 2026)

Seven Deadly Sins: Origin launched with 18 playable characters across two rarity tiers: 8 SSR and 10 SR. What makes this game's tier list unique is that every character can equip multiple weapon types, and a character's ranking changes dramatically depending on which weapon they use. A C-tier character with the wrong weapon can become S-tier with the right one.

This tier list reflects the Early Access meta as of March 2026, covering PvE story content, Elite Bosses, and Challenge Bosses. PvP/Arena has not yet launched.

How Rankings Work in SDS Origin

Unlike most gacha games where you pull for a character and their kit is fixed, SDS Origin ties a character's moveset to their equipped weapon. Meliodas with an Axe plays completely differently from Meliodas with a Longsword. This means tier lists must evaluate character + weapon combinations, not characters alone.

Rankings are based on:

  • Damage output across sustained fights and burst windows
  • Elemental coverage for boss weaknesses (Fire, Wind, Earth, Lightning, Cold)
  • Survivability and utility in 4-player co-op content
  • Accessibility — whether F2P players can realistically build the combo

S Tier — Best Character + Weapon Combos

These are the strongest options in the current meta. Prioritize building these if you have them.

| Character | Weapon | Why S Tier | |-----------|--------|-----------| | Meliodas | Axe | Highest burst DPS in the game. Axe moveset has wide cleave and strong stagger, making him dominant in both story bosses and Elite Boss fights. His SSR stats combined with Axe scaling create the best raw damage output available. | | Meliodas | Dual Swords | Fast attack chains with excellent elemental application. Better sustained DPS than Axe but lower burst. Ideal for bosses with tight dodge windows where you need quick hit-and-run. | | Diane | Axe | Massive AoE damage with natural tankiness. Diane's high base HP lets her trade hits with bosses while dealing top-tier damage. Axe moveset complements her strength-focused stats perfectly. | | Drake | Greatsword | The premier Greatsword user. Slow but devastating charged attacks that can break boss stagger bars in two or three hits. Essential for Dragon's Grave content where Earth element is needed. | | Elaine | Staff | Best healer/support in the game. Staff moveset provides consistent healing and buff uptime. Near-mandatory for harder Challenge Boss fights where sustain matters. | | Elaine | Wand | Trades some healing for offensive magic damage. Still provides support utility but can contribute meaningful DPS. Good for content where you need a hybrid role. | | King | Grimoire | Top-tier magic DPS with excellent range. Grimoire gives King access to powerful AoE spells that hit Lightning element weakness — critical for Grey Demon and Banakro fights. | | King | Staff | Support variant with strong crowd control. Less damage than Grimoire but better team utility. Works well paired with a melee DPS carry. | | Hendrickson | Longsword | Surprisingly strong melee DPS with self-sustain. Longsword moveset gives him fast combos and decent stagger damage. His SSR base stats make him a reliable frontline option. | | Jericho | Lance | Long reach with high single-target damage. Lance moveset is excellent for poking bosses during attack windows without overcommitting. Strong pick for Red Demon (Earth element). | | Tristan | Dual Swords | The best free character in the game. Guaranteed from the newbie gacha, and his Dual Swords build competes with SSR options in S tier. Every player should build this combo. |

Key takeaway: Tristan (Dual Swords) being S tier as a free SR character means every account has at least one top-tier option from day one.

A Tier — Strong and Reliable

Excellent picks that perform well across most content. Some rival S tier in specific situations.

| Character | Weapon | Notes | |-----------|--------|-------| | Guila | Lance | Free SR from Grand Launch sign-in. Strong Fire element coverage for Corrupted Guardian Golem. Lance reach keeps her safe. | | Guila | Rapier | Faster than Lance with better combo potential but less range. Still a solid A-tier pick. | | Tioreh | Wand | Free SR from pre-registration. Magic DPS with decent elemental coverage. Good filler for teams lacking ranged damage. | | Howzer | Gauntlets | Free SR from story progression. Gauntlets give him fast close-range combos. Decent stagger damage for his rarity. | | Mannie | Longsword | Balanced SSR melee option. Not as explosive as Meliodas but more consistent and easier to play. | | Mannie | Staff | Hybrid support/DPS. Provides some healing but not as strong as Elaine in either role. Jack-of-all-trades pick. | | Griamore | Sword & Shield | The tankiest option in the game. S&S moveset gives him block and counter mechanics. Useful in co-op when your team needs a dedicated tank. | | Bug | Grimoire | Underrated magic DPS. Grimoire moveset on Bug provides good AoE clear for mob-heavy content. Held back by SR stats. | | Diane | Countess | Alternative Diane build with more utility and less raw damage. Still benefits from her high base stats. | | Tristan | Greatsword | Slower but harder-hitting variant. Good for stagger-focused play but Dual Swords is generally better. | | Tristan | Longsword | Balanced option between Dual Swords speed and Greatsword power. Fine for story content. | | King | Wand | Less damage than Grimoire but more accessible playstyle. Good entry point for King before you optimize his build. |

B Tier — Situationally Useful

These combos work but are outclassed by higher-tier options in most content. Build them if you lack better alternatives or need specific elemental coverage.

| Character | Weapon | Notes | |-----------|--------|-------| | Slater | Axe | Free SR from tutorial gacha. Axe gives him decent damage but his base stats limit his ceiling. Serviceable early game. | | Slater | Greatsword | Slightly better stagger than Axe but slower. Falls off in mid-game content. | | Drake | Longsword | Gives up Greatsword's burst for faster attacks. Loses Drake's main advantage. | | Drake | Staff | Odd hybrid build that doesn't leverage Drake's strengths. Only use if you desperately need another support. | | Gilthunder | Sword & Shield | Functional tank but Griamore does the job better. Lightning element coverage is his main draw. | | Gilthunder | Longsword | DPS variant that lacks the stats to compete with SSR options. | | Dreyfus | Lance | Decent reach and damage but outclassed by Jericho in the same weapon class. | | Diane | Nunchaku | Fast attacks but poor scaling compared to her Axe build. Feels like a downgrade. | | Howzer | Nunchaku | Similar issue to Diane — fast but weak. Gauntlets are strictly better for Howzer. | | Jericho | Rapier | Less range than Lance without enough extra DPS to compensate. | | Tioreh | Grimoire | Lower damage than Wand variant for Tioreh. Not recommended. | | Dredrin | Rapier | Middling DPS with no standout qualities. Fill pick only. |

C Tier — Avoid Building

These combos have poor synergy between character stats and weapon movesets. Spending resources here is not recommended unless you have no other options.

Notable entries to avoid:

  • Bug (Axe/Dual Swords): Bug's stats are built for magic, not physical. These weapons waste his scaling.
  • Hendrickson (Dual Swords/Lance): Longsword is his only good weapon. Other options lose his self-sustain synergy.
  • Dreyfus (Longsword/Rapier): Neither weapon plays to Dreyfus's strengths. Lance is his only viable option.
  • Griamore (Gauntlets/Nunchaku): Griamore is a tank. Fast attack weapons don't synergize with his defensive kit.
  • Slater (Nunchaku): The worst combo in the game. Low stats, bad scaling, no elemental advantage anywhere.

Best F2P Team Composition

Every player receives four free SR characters:

  1. Tristan (Dual Swords) — S-tier main DPS
  2. Tioreh (Wand) — A-tier ranged magic DPS
  3. Guila (Lance) — A-tier Fire element DPS
  4. Slater (Axe) — B-tier physical DPS / filler

Run Tristan as your carry, Tioreh for ranged support, and rotate Guila or Slater based on boss element weaknesses. Add Howzer (free from story) as a fifth option for physical-heavy content. This team can clear the entire main story without spending any currency.

Boss-Specific Picks

Matching element weaknesses is often more important than tier placement:

| Boss | Weakness | Best Picks | |------|----------|------------| | Red Demon | Earth | Jericho (Lance), Drake (Greatsword). Never bring Fire characters — it buffs the boss. | | Grey Demon | Lightning | King (Grimoire), Gilthunder (S&S) for shock application. | | Banakro | Lightning | King (Grimoire). Watch for water projectile phase at 25% HP. | | Albion | Wind | Prioritize mobility over DPS — dodge-heavy fight. | | Corrupted Guardian Golem | Fire | Guila (Lance), any Fire-element combo. Pure melee fight, stay close. | | Scorpy Beast | Cold | Cold element characters. Keep distance from tail sweep. | | Drake (Boss) | Earth | Jericho (Lance). Highest damage boss in the game — learn dodge timings. |

How This List Will Change

The current meta is shaped by launch content. Expect shifts when:

  • New characters release — Netmarble's roadmap likely includes Ban, Gowther, Merlin, and Escanor
  • PvP/Arena opens — Survivability and CC will matter more, boosting tanks like Griamore
  • Higher difficulty content — May favor sustained DPS and healing over burst damage
  • Weapon balance patches — C-tier combos could jump to A-tier overnight

We will update this tier list as the meta evolves. Bookmark this page and check back after major patches.
