SDS Origin Gacha System Explained — Pity, Rates & Strategy
Seven Deadly Sins: Origin uses a weapon-based gacha system where you pull for character weapons rather than characters directly. Understanding the exact rates, pity mechanics, and currency economy is essential for both free-to-play and spending players. This guide breaks down every number you need to plan your pulls effectively.
Base Pull Rates
Every single pull in SDS Origin follows these fixed probabilities:
| Rarity | Rate | Notes | |--------|------|-------| | SSR | 0.8% | Highest rarity weapons | | SR | 6.0% | Mid-tier weapons | | R | 93.2% | Common weapons (fodder) |
On a Pick-Up Banner, the featured SSR weapon has a 0.4% rate — exactly half of the total 0.8% SSR pool. The remaining 0.4% is split among all other SSR weapons in the permanent pool.
On the Permanent (Standard) Banner, each individual SSR has an equal rate of approximately 0.1143% per pull, distributed evenly across all available SSR weapons.
These rates are fixed and do not change until you hit the soft pity threshold.
Pity System Breakdown
SDS Origin implements a three-tier pity system that guarantees you will eventually get what you want — if you save enough.
Soft Pity (Pull 65+)
Starting at approximately pull 65, the SSR drop rate begins to increase with each subsequent pull. The exact rate increase per pull has not been officially disclosed, but community testing suggests meaningful jumps starting here. Most players who reach soft pity will land an SSR somewhere between pulls 65 and 79.
Hard Pity (Pull 80)
At exactly pull 80, you are guaranteed an SSR weapon if you have not received one yet. This is an absolute ceiling — you cannot go 80 pulls without getting at least one SSR.
However, the hard pity SSR is not guaranteed to be the featured Pick-Up weapon. This is where the 50/50 mechanic comes into play.
50/50 Mechanic
When you pull an SSR on a Pick-Up Banner (whether naturally or via hard pity), there is a 50% chance it will be the featured weapon and a 50% chance it will be a random off-banner SSR.
If you lose the 50/50 — meaning you get an off-banner SSR — your next SSR pull on that same banner is guaranteed to be the Pick-Up weapon. This "guaranteed next" carries forward until you claim it.
Pick-Up Guarantee (Pull 120)
If you are extraordinarily unlucky and lose every 50/50, the absolute worst case to guarantee the featured Pick-Up weapon is 120 pulls. This is the ceiling for a single featured SSR:
- Pull 1–80: Hard pity triggers, you get an SSR (could be off-banner)
- Pull 81–120: If the first was off-banner, the next SSR within 40 more pulls is guaranteed to be the Pick-Up
In practice, most players will get the featured weapon well before 120 thanks to soft pity and natural luck. Community estimates put the average at roughly 60–70 pulls per featured SSR when accounting for soft pity.
Banner Types
Pick-Up Banners
Pick-Up Banners feature a specific SSR weapon at the boosted 0.4% rate with the 50/50 and 120-pull guarantee system. These banners rotate on a 21-day cycle, giving you three weeks to accumulate pulls before the banner expires.
Pity count does not carry over between different Pick-Up Banners. If you have 50 pulls invested in one banner and it expires, those 50 pulls are lost. Plan your pulling around the 21-day window.
Permanent Banner
The Standard/Permanent Banner has no featured weapon boost. All SSR weapons share equal rates at 0.1143% each. Hard pity still applies at 80 pulls, but there is no Pick-Up guarantee mechanic since there is no featured weapon.
Generally, only pull on the Permanent Banner with free single-pull tickets that cannot be used elsewhere.
Gacha Currencies
SDS Origin uses three distinct currencies for pulling:
Star Memory (Premium)
Star Memory is the premium currency purchased with real money. It converts directly into pulls on any banner. This is the primary monetization lever — if you are spending, this is what you buy.
Star Fragments (Free)
Star Fragments are the free-to-play equivalent of Star Memory. You earn them through:
- Main story completion
- Side quests and exploration
- Achievement milestones
- Daily and weekly missions
- Event rewards
- Adventure Rank rewards
Star Fragments are the core of your F2P pulling budget. Hoard them for banners featuring weapons you actually need.
Draw Tickets
Draw Tickets are individual pull tokens earned from:
- Login rewards
- Event milestones
- Redemption codes
- Special campaigns (like the Grand Launch celebration)
- Compensation for maintenance or bugs
Draw Tickets typically work on specific banners — check which banner each ticket applies to before planning your pulls.
F2P Pulling Economy
Based on community tracking from the Early Access period (March 16–22, 2026), free-to-play players who complete main story content and engage with daily/weekly activities can accumulate over 200 free pulls within the first 100+ hours of gameplay.
Here is a rough breakdown of where those pulls come from:
| Source | Estimated Pulls | |--------|----------------| | Main story Star Fragments | 60–80 | | Side quests and exploration | 30–40 | | Achievement rewards | 20–30 | | Daily/weekly missions (first month) | 25–35 | | Launch events and codes | 20–30 | | Login bonuses | 10–15 | | Total | 165–230 |
This means a patient F2P player can realistically hit the 120-pull guarantee on at least one Pick-Up Banner and have pulls left over for a second attempt.
Pulling Strategy for F2P Players
Do Not Reroll
The community consensus is clear: rerolling is not worth it in SDS Origin. The 30-day account deletion cooldown makes rerolling painfully slow, and the 200+ free pulls from natural gameplay make your starting pull largely irrelevant. Play the game, enjoy the story, and your pulls will come.
Save for Pick-Up Banners
Never spend Star Fragments on the Permanent Banner. The Pick-Up system with its 50/50 guarantee and 120-pull ceiling gives you far better odds of getting a specific weapon you want.
Budget 120 Pulls Per Target
Always assume worst case. If a Pick-Up Banner features a weapon you want, make sure you have 120 pulls saved before committing. Going in with 60 pulls and hoping to win the 50/50 is a gamble — and if you lose, you have wasted those pulls when the banner expires.
Skip Banners Aggressively
With a 21-day banner cycle and limited free currency, you cannot pull on every banner. Consult the current tier list to identify which SSR weapons are S-tier for your main characters, and skip everything else. One fully guaranteed S-tier weapon is worth more than three failed attempts at A-tier weapons.
Track Your Pity
Keep a personal count of how many pulls you have made on the current banner. The in-game history should show this, but maintaining your own count ensures you know exactly where you stand relative to soft pity (65), hard pity (80), and Pick-Up guarantee (120).
Common Mistakes to Avoid
-
Pulling impulsively with small amounts of currency. If you cannot reach at least soft pity (65 pulls), you are likely wasting resources.
-
Ignoring the 50/50 mechanic. Losing the 50/50 is not a disaster — it guarantees your next SSR is the featured weapon. But only if you have enough pulls to reach that next SSR.
-
Spending Star Fragments on the Permanent Banner. The permanent pool dilutes your odds across all SSR weapons equally. Save fragments for Pick-Up Banners.
-
Forgetting banner expiration. Pity does not carry over between different Pick-Up Banners. Check how many days remain before committing pulls.
-
Chasing every new banner. Netmarble will release new banners regularly. Not every SSR is worth chasing. Be selective and strategic.
Summary
SDS Origin's gacha system is relatively generous compared to other games in the genre. The 0.8% SSR base rate combined with soft pity at 65 and hard pity at 80 means you will see SSR weapons regularly. The 120-pull Pick-Up guarantee and 50/50 safety net ensure that dedicated saving always pays off. With 200+ free pulls available through normal gameplay, F2P players can compete effectively — as long as they pull strategically and resist the urge to chase every banner.
